Ruby Star Society's Warp and Weft collection fabrics are lightweight and make for an extremely soft finished product!I wish I had an adult-size version. This quilt went off to its baby right away, and I sometimes wonder how these little fabric tufts held up. My notes say that it was called a "Christmas Star", but I can't find it. If anyone recognizes it, let me know! I think there was even a tutorial that I followed. Most beautiful binding! Lone Stars *look* super impressive... but they come together really quickly. So many old favorite fabrics - the block doesn't use a ton of print fabric, so I could scrape these together. Binding surprise. When my daughter was born (um... over 2 years ago...) I finally got to pull out this little patchwork quilt top that I'd been saving "just in case I have a girl" 💗. She's my second child, so... it's fitting that it has taken this long to post.

I've long admired Meg Callahan's quilts, and this baby quilt is inspired by her aesthetic.
While I didn't hope to replicate the intricacy and scale of her designs, I stuck to just two fabrics (!) and focused on the overall texture of the sliced stripes in a field of white.
I used one of my favorite Anna Maria Horner prints from her Honor Roll collection, and some solid Kona White. Back when there was still snow on the ground, I finished up this small and sweet triangle patchwork baby quilt.
A tiny bit nautical and pretty scrappy!
The backing is a 30's-ish orange and white print.
The binding is my new go-to not-quite-solid, a star chart print from Hawthorne Supply Co in navy. Well, it would be my go-to if I was cranking out the quilts like I used to.

This is a sweet, simple improvised baby quilt.
It's made of four "blocks" floated on a white background.
Each "block" has a longer "bar" of linen
and nearby there are some dashes or squares. Placement of bars and their accompanying squares or dashes was totally spur-of-the-moment and quite fun to construct.
Black and white binding frames it all Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02269228240489318254noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3579433932617772752.post-10390829578497565902017-12-20T11:59:00.003-05:002017-12-20T11:59:24.463-05:00Little X Baby Quilt2017 Wrap up: I made this one quilt 😂
Solitary and adorable.
I made 12 blocks - - what to call them: small granny squares? Plus blocks on point? To construct them, I first made 9-patch blocks with sashing fabric (Kona Stone) blocks in each corner, then added triangles to set them on point.
The 1-inch straight line quilting is denser than I normally like (because so Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02269228240489318254noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3579433932617772752.post-16592452539884393242017-07-07T13:31:00.003-04:002017-07-07T13:34:44.305-04:00Improv Flying Geese Baby Quilt
This darling baby quilt features flocks of wonky, improvised flying geese in navy, teal, and gold prints and solids. They're set on a greige sky (Kona stone).
Usually, the process of making flying geese is very industrial for me. (I crank 'em out with the second method here, and have wound up with too many in the past!)
This time, I set a standard width of 7" that eachAnnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02269228240489318254noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3579433932617772752.post-86924753265704740712017-01-30T10:56:00.000-05:002017-01-30T10:57:09.337-05:00Herringbone Baby Quilt
This snappy little baby quilt reminds me that sometimes simple designs and fabrics can have the greatest impact.
The gray and white herringbone design is a pretty much straight up copy of this one at CB Handmade. I want to make (or own!) everything on that blog!
The original version seems to use half-square triangles to achieve the herringbone look, but I tackled it Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02269228240489318254noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3579433932617772752.post-91418741323202251842016-07-11T07:32:00.001-04:002016-07-11T07:32:59.610-04:00Fair Isle Baby Quilt
A sampler quilt, of a sort! This past winter, I set out to make a baby quilt out of strips of different patterns-- a fair isle quilt. I took inspiration from horizontal patterns in quilts as well as sweaters.
I also dove into a stack of fabrics I'd been hoarding from Cloud 9 fabrics based on Goodnight Moon. Those kittens and mittens!
One of the best parts: planning! I Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02269228240489318254noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3579433932617772752.post-50484655081275741942016-03-24T12:36:00.000-04:002016-03-24T12:36:29.954-04:00Sunny Patchwork Baby Quilt
While we're waiting for spring to start up *for real* (it's snowing right now...), this little aqua and yellow patchwork quilt is a spot of sunshine.
Hopefully some fresh leaves will come out one of these days...
This quilt measures up at about 36"x40", and is quilted in double straight lines along the seams. It was such fun, too, to pull some of my favorite Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02269228240489318254noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3579433932617772752.post-77965632141860251252016-01-31T08:44:00.000-05:002016-01-31T08:44:03.860-05:00Citron and Aqua Sampler Quilt
How did I let this stack of blocks languish in my sewing cabinet for so long (years)? I'm not sure what I was waiting for, but earlier this winter I pulled out blocks accumulated from a few rounds of the 3x6 and 4x5 quilting bees.
Measuring up around 48"x60" it's a nice lap size that I quilted in a double-line grid. I love how it will always be fun to look at all the different blocksAnnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02269228240489318254noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3579433932617772752.post-89891810955141661272015-11-24T08:54:00.000-05:002015-11-24T14:09:00.933-05:00Modern Linen Baby Quilt
Earlier this fall, I dove into my linen scraps that my friend Lynn at South Street Linen gave me to play around with. I've used some of her fetching hand-printed linen before, but this time I decided to use exclusively linen for the quilt top instead of mixing it with quilting cotton.
The result: a collection of unique rectangular blocks splayed out and sashed up with classically Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02269228240489318254noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3579433932617772752.post-15373355018553617192015-09-24T08:37:00.000-04:002015-09-24T08:40:43.902-04:00Triangle Arrows Baby Quilt
This summer, I found myself with an interesting "problem": what to do with leftover half-square-triangle blocks from my Goose in the Corner Medallion quilt.
I've long admired these kinds of arrows-made-of-triangles quilts, and once I figured out how I wanted to lay it out, I started this sweet baby quilt.
Because there are so many seams with HST's, I wanted to Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02269228240489318254noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3579433932617772752.post-26187474311467705622015-07-21T11:26:00.002-04:002021-07-15T08:55:02.249-04:00Glowing Star Block & Pillow
I'm excited to share not only a new project, but also a new paper-piecing pattern: a Glowing Star.
This star is based on the same concept as the Lone Starburst -- a layered star -- but with an updated set of angles that make the finished project a bit rounder and more twinkly. The pattern, available on Etsy, contains templates for both 12.5" AND 18.5" unfinished blocks. This recent finish is a smaller, baby version of Craft South's free Into the Wild Quilt pattern, measuring up at about 37"x48".
I'm always on the lookout for fabrics that work for boys (without having cartoon trucks or ninjas on them). This time, I put brown and tan tones into the mix, paired with blues and teals.
I added a a bit of linen, which I Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02269228240489318254noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3579433932617772752.post-51698766555214144292015-06-09T11:50:00.000-04:002015-06-09T11:50:22.445-04:00Easy Quilted Euro Sham Tutorial with Invisible Zipper
Euro Shams are kind of fancy, right? I have a plan to use mine to make some benches in my entryway more comfortable, but they also adorn beds and sofas. These plump 26-inch pillows can easily be covered in fabric of your choice to decorate your space! Invisible zippers seem tricky, but they are approachable once you get the hang of setting them up, and using one allows you to create two Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02269228240489318254noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3579433932617772752.post-91313450196455316192015-05-19T09:14:00.000-04:002015-05-19T09:15:49.221-04:00Cosmic Red and White Baby Quilt
As part of my recent dive back into doing more sewing, I decided to tackle some WIPs. I found these three Sun, Please! blocks (from two years ago!) and decided to feature them on a simple, gender-neutral red and white baby quilt.
This quilt measures about 42 inches square, and I love the contrast created by the simple layout and palette against the intricate paper-pieced Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02269228240489318254noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3579433932617772752.post-62689859299028836682015-04-28T10:11:00.000-04:002015-04-28T10:42:15.155-04:00Pretty Patchwork Baby Quilt
It's been a while since I finished a new quilt. Quite a while. It was hard to know where to start when I started to feel like sewing again and had some free time. Pinterest? WIPs? Flickr? My list of "make someday" quilts?
To get back into the swing of things, I decided it was time for some pure, pressure-free fabric play. The results? A series of fabric stacks, all ready for some Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02269228240489318254noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3579433932617772752.post-33179630783385584832015-03-27T14:15:00.000-04:002015-07-06T08:55:18.136-04:00Sea Glass Goose in the Corner Medallion Quilt
Is summer on its way? Looking at this lap-size quilt, which I finished last summer, is infusing my day with thoughts of boat rides, beach walks, and cocktails on the deck.
I stitched this quilt with sea glass tones of green, aqua, and blue using "Goose in the Corner" blocks.
This easy-to-make and extremely versatile block was new to me, but I have it on my list to make moreAnnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02269228240489318254noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3579433932617772752.post-28541647271681254152014-12-18T09:35:00.000-05:002015-07-06T08:55:45.074-04:00Converging Corners Love Llamas Baby Quilt
Although this little quilt is from wayyy back in the summer, isn't its palette perfectly festive for the holidays?
For this baby quilt, measuring up at about 40x60 inches, I used Film in the Fridge's Converging Corners Block tutorial, one that has been LONG on my to-sew list. I love how the piecing method is improvisational, yet the results are all squared up!
Sometimes, Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02269228240489318254noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3579433932617772752.post-43416617317483514782014-11-05T13:20:00.000-05:002014-11-05T13:20:44.110-05:00Lotta Strips Baby Quilt
Making a strip quilt is one of my favorite ways to showcase fabrics in a baby quilt! This one is made with mostly Lotta Jansodotter prints, with a few extras thrown in. I love these fabrics for a not-too-girly quilt for girls :)
I really appreciate the contrasts of types of prints. Even though these varied collections play nicely together as a whole, they're different enough to Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02269228240489318254noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3579433932617772752.post-44977499379555828472014-10-08T08:52:00.000-04:002014-10-08T08:58:37.140-04:00Shockwave Squares Scrappy Baby Quilt
Gender-neutral, and "for boys" quilts as well, can really be a challenge for me. I have no problem using the whole gamut of colors for girls, so my stash is all over the place, but I tend to like floral prints too much for all of those same fabrics to also work for boys.
This quilt was born from a stack of fabric that grew from leftovers of my Boats Baby Quilt, since I loved its color Annahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02269228240489318254noreply@blogger.com4
