Herringbone Baby Quilt

This snappy little baby quilt reminds me that sometimes simple designs and fabrics can have the greatest impact.

The gray and white herringbone design is a pretty much straight up copy of this one at CB Handmade. I want to  make (or own!) everything on that blog!

The original version seems to use half-square triangles to achieve the herringbone look, but I tackled it with strips of width-of-fabric white and gray sewn together and cut on a 45-degree diagonal.

With simple, two-tone patchwork, I wanted a backing with impact. This one's from Birch Organic's Charley Harper Maritime line. Cheerful, spotty octopi!

Simple vertical straight-line quilting alongside the seams echoes the simplicity of the design, and solid navy blue binding (literally) keeps it all together and provides a nice frame.
